A beach towel. They put a beach towel in a collector's edition. And honestly, we respect it.

The Hyperdimension Neptunia Limited Edition on Playstation 3 is one of the most charmingly unhinged special editions to come out of the PS3's JRPG golden era, and it knows exactly what it is. This limited edition packages Compile Heart's fourth-wall-shattering RPG with a soundtrack CD that captures the game's impossibly upbeat score, an artbook loaded with character illustrations that lean hard into the series' signature style, and a paper doll set that lets you play dress-up with Neptune and friends in analog form. Then there's that beach towel, emblazoned with the cast in all their vibrant glory, a physical item so gloriously extra that it became the talking point for this entire package.

Hyperdimension Neptunia was the start of a franchise that built a cult following by satirizing the very industry it existed in, and this limited edition captures that spirit perfectly. It doesn't take itself too seriously, and neither should you. But finding a complete set with the towel still pristine is the kind of hunt that separates the casual fans from the dedicated Nep-Nep faithful.

For PS3 JRPG collectors, this one sits in a sweet spot: niche enough to have limited production, beloved enough to have real demand. The paper doll set alone is a relic of a time when publishers weren't afraid to get weird with their pack-ins. We miss that energy.
