Auto Assault Collector's Edition

PC
Auto Assault Collector's Edition
NCsoft4/13/2006

The MMO that let you strap guns to a car and call it endgame content. 7cm, a soundtrack CD by Richard Dekkard, a wall poster, an engraved metal key ring, faction postcards for the Mutant, Human, and Biomek races, a bumper sticker, a 14-day friend trial code, and an exclusive in-game remote control car. The servers are long gone, but this box is a time capsule of mid-2000s MMO ambition.

That engraved metal key ring and the oversized wasteland map give this edition genuine shelf character. The Creative headset was a legitimate peripheral inclusion at a time when bundled hardware was still a flex for PC collector's editions. Auto Assault burned bright and brief, which only makes the physical package more interesting as a collector's piece.

Games that shut down leave behind orphaned boxes, and the ones with this much tangible material inside become curiosities worth preserving. The bumper sticker is peak 2006 energy. If you collect MMO history, this Collector's Edition tells a story that the digital record alone can't capture.
